The region was destabilized in the early twentieth century, at which point all the old prefectures remaining of the Late Ottoman Empire got divvied up by ukase of the British colonialists, and all the old countries simply declared obsolete and replaced with the new nations that have been in their place since then.
This happened because it was understood that the ownership of all those oil resources was indeed going to be a big deal, and, and both world wars since then have pivoted on concerns radiating out of this region.
We have been the same war in the Middle east since then. The turks, at that time, were sealed up within their own borders and Iraq was invented out of Kurdistan and other such old countries. The Turks claim prior ownership of the region and so they did, as the phrase goes, some terrible things.
Now they want to reclaim the region, and the irony is Iraq is now a province of the US, wich means they are attacking us.
Of course we're supposed to not know that Iraq is a province of the US, so you may, or may not understand my answer.

Do some research. 27 members of a committee voted to send a resolution to the floor of the House regarding Turkey genocide towards Armenia 90 years ago. It hasn't come up for a full floor vote nor will it due to strong opposition. This hardly qualifies as the US bashing Turkey. Try to keep up.

The Dems in Congress recently brought up a resolution condemming Turkey for the genocide against the Armenians during the Ottoman Empire. This really ticked off the Turkish government who did nothing to deserve a resolution like that right now. They actually withdrew their ambassador after that.
They have been an ally in the war and have let us use their air space as well as allowing us to transport goods to our troops through their country.
The resolution brought up in Congress can be seen as Democrats disrupting the war effort whether it may be intentionally or unintentionally.

Cause our leaders need their heads examined.
Oh one more thing. An example of how history repeats it self.
In the 1700's a nation was under British Rule as a colony. That nation went to war with the Brits through a revolution. Because it was a very unpopular and expensive war with within parliament and the public at large, support was eventually withdrawn. This nation that revolution and won due to a political loss within the House of Parliament and the British Public became the United States of America.
Couple centuries later, this nation became a super power and enforced its beliefs of a proper goverment through out the world upon many nations. Britain lost its status as an empire and was replaced by the Yanks.
My point? If you do not see the pattern here with how an unpopular war that is losing in Congress and with the US public would allow Iraq and its radicals do the same to the US as the US did to the Brits, then there is nothing I can do to help you.
By frustrating and sabotaging the Iraqi war by insulting our ally (Turkey), the Democrats hope to gain power within our goverment, but will unwittingly
lose the nation in the long run while at it.

The Dems realize that if they can make an enemy of Turkey and have them close our base there, it stops the supply lines to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is a political move to try to disrupt the war. This way they can blame Turkey if we end up having to withdraw troops, instead of taking the political risk of cutting off funding like they did in Vietnam. Do you really believe the Dems are concerned with what happened there over 100 years ago. If that were the case we would all be paying reparations.

The US is not bashing Turkey. Democrat Congressional leaders are bashing Turkey, in order to shut down supply lines for American troops while they're in the middle of a war. They simply wish to lose the Mid-East to the enemy so they can blame Bush.
It's simple politics. Some of us also view it as inappropriate, insensitive, and treasonous.

because the libs are pissed off that things are getting better in iraq
they figure it would be fun to see the troops lose a military supply line through northern iraq so they're in even more danger. the libs have calculated that more troop casualties = fewer conservative voters. and the libs would also like it if turkey further complicates matters by attacking the kurds, our only true allies in iraq.
