she made dumbledore gay. GAY!! i swear i liked the books before but that was just a stupid twist she threw in and it is too much. I think I am no longer a fan of any of the books.. i mean i wasn't like a strong supporter of them anyways but now, i mean, what next? harry and ron going out? does anyone else find this completely strange?

i got nothing against gays but i agree with that person that said that it just doesn't fit dumbledore... i mean its not like i hate tha books now or anything but if i went back and reread them with the knowledge that dumbledore was gay... well i really have to be honest that i do not know how well i would like the books because of the fact it just isn't him...

To be honest, her making Dumbledore gay kind of irritated me as well.
I have nothing against gays, or against the idea of a gay character in the Harry Potter books. But, I think it is complete bullsh*t to have a character be perceived as "straight" for the entire series, then all of a sudden once the series is over, make him gay. I think J.K. is succumbing to the "trendiness" of homosexuality, and that's really irritating because Dumbledore was one of my favorite characters. If he had been gay from the beginning I wouldn't have had any problem with it. But throwing it in at the end like that? So stupid.

I don't know why she went and did that, it can't be a last stand to hope the books will sell they made millions. Well maybe it is, maybe she's trying to get the gay community to read the books. I love gays, but nothing in the books ever lead me to believe dumbledore was gay......?

Yo have overreacted, IMHO. This is part of Dumbledore's backstory. I don't think that JKR has an agenda, or is seeking more publicity.
According to the story I read, she had told the writer of the screenplay for HBP that Dumbledore was gay because there was mention of a female love interest in the screenplay and she had to set them right. Having done that, she might as well have made it public, since it would have eventually come out anyway--she could control when and how it was done. and in any case, this story came out because she was directly asked if Dumbledore loved anyone.
Throughout the series, we know Dumbledore as a tireless and seemingly single-minded fighter against Dark Wizards (at least from Harry's perspective; we do have to remember that Albus is also a great teacher, an alchemist, and important theoretical Wizard--remember the tools and instruments he made himself). But how did Albus become that way?
We learn much about this in DH, with Arianna's story, Aberforth's story and the story of the friendship between Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald. In reading DH, it was clear that Grindelwald seduced Dumbledore on a number of levels; intellectually, ideologically, and, by JKR's new revelation, emotionally. We don't know if that seduction was sexual as well, and I'm not sure it is important for us to know.
The revelation completes the picture for us of a man who felt betrayed, injured by one he loved, ashamed at how far he went from rational thought and behavior, how far he really was from what he thought he was.
The up shot is that we now know more completely Dumbledore's motivations for fighting Dark Wizards--his shame at his own tangential contribution to Grindelwald's career, his reluctance to fight him, and, when Voldemort rose, his determination to not to repeat his prior mistake of inaction and to fight Voldemort from the start.
So in summery, It was part of the way JKR viewed Dumbledore and understood him. I don't think it was something that would have come out voluntarily--more likely something that would have made a scholarly article 50 or 60 years from now after she was gone and literary scholar had access to her full notes (assuming she left them to be investigated).
BTW, there is some inkling of this in DH, where Rita Skeeter talks about devoting a chapter in her book about Dumbledore to the Dumbledore/Harry relationship. This is not to say that there was anything improper--but that JKR did put out a hint.

While I have absolutely no problem with anyone or any fictional one being gay, I have had a bit of a problem with this late notice on the headmaster. It causes no problem with the books, the books remain good reading in my estimation, but there is not a hint of such a leaning that I know of and as I've written here way too often, it all feels like a publicity stunt to me.
I did discuss it with my good friend though, and she thinks that JK Rowling has got to be under tremendous pressure, and has been for some time what with books, movies, appearances, children, husband etc... and my friend actually does think that JK is "losing it." (My friend has absolutely no problem with anyone being gay, either, so it isn't that she refers to; it's the blunt announcement out of the blue, etc etc.) Anyway, don't tell my friend I wrote about her here, okay? Thanks. And on we go...

JK Rowling's twist doesn't change my opinion of the books at all. I loved Harry Potter and I'd read more if she decided to write more, which unfortunately, I know she won't. But anyway, the fact that Dumbledore is gay is irrelevant. He played a crucial part in the story in general and especially in Harry's character development. I don't care what his sexual preference is. It doesn't matter.

So what? It's not like it changes anything that was already written in the stories/books.....the next book isn't going to be about Dumbledore's secret gay sexual exploitations behind the local bowling alley. It is what it is. It just adds something to his character that apparently other people were already pondering.

I have no problem with him being gay, but it's just WEIRD. I mean, in the whole series of books there is no mention of anything romantic with Dumbledore.............at all! So then what? Now that the series is over she's gonna say he's gay?!?!? WTF? It's just strange. Seems to me that now all the hoopla is over with the books and she just wanted some more attention..........

I guess it's kind of weird just popping out saying "Oh yeah, he's gay!" Not that I've ever read any Harry Potter books though. But what's wrong with being gay anyways? Not that I am but..

I have absolutely no problem with him being gay. She clearly always thought of him as gay in her mind, but she obviously couldn't say it before book 7 because she couldn't mention his relationship with Grindelwald.
Then someone asked her if Dumbledore found true love and she gave the true answer.
I think it's great. :D
