A fracture is classified as either a simple (closed) or compound (end of bone has broken through skin or open). Signs that a fracture is present include:
1. Pain at the affected area.
2. The area may or may not be deformed.
3. The victim is unable to place weight on the area without experiencing pain.
4. A grating sensation or sound may be present during any motion of the injured area.
Treatment is as follows:
1. If in doubt, treat the injury as a fracture.
2. Splint the joints above and below the fracture.
3. If the fracture may penetrate the skin, it could be necessary to apply traction to straighten the deformity.
4. Be sure to pad your splints.
5. Check the splint ties frequently to be sure they do not hinder circulation.
6. Cover all open wounds with a clean dressing before splinting.

First thing you do? Scream like a banshee because it will hurt like the dickens. The next thing is immobilize the limb. If available, place ice around the break but NOT in direct contact with the skin. Get immediate attention. Do NOT attempt to set the bone. Do NOT attempt to walk on broken leg. It's very possible that a bone shard or fragment could puncture a vein or artery and you would quite possibly bleed out before help arrived.

DO NOT REMOVE SHOE OR BOOT----put icepacks around the are of injury and if you can, IMMOBILIZE the area using SPLINTS... to NOT try to "set" the break by yourself---let a doctor who is TRAINED to--set it.... you COULD cause more serious injury to yourself IF you try to "FIX YOURSELF".... I broke my ankle twice (same bone same leg different years)... the first time was while skiing where I had LOTS of help---the second time I was ALONE with my 2 year old--at my home with my nearest neighbor 1/4 mile away...I ended up driving MYSELF to the clinic where the doctor set the leg and when the cast dried enough, I drove myself HOME too- (wasn't supposed to though)... broke through 3 casts doing that and the doctor actually got MAD at me for driving with the cast and things...

I broke and dislocated my finger left-ring finger better than a 0.5 a dozen cases so interior the top I purely had it chopped off purely above the 1st joint approximately 2 months in the past, by way of fact i grew to become into so sick of continuously breaking it. I heavily advise which you do no longer bypass forward with your plan, by way of fact it ought to bring about something plenty worse. i did no longer ever desire to interrupt my finger yet interior the top being without 2/3 of a finger isn't so undesirable relatively of having something so breaking, even regardless of the undeniable fact that it grew to become into so insignificant. Stumpy:-)

Attempt to call for help. If none was available, arrange some type of splint for the injured member, and get to assistance.

Putting it back would be extremely pain-full, You get 2 boards or branches on each side and wrap to stabilize the break.

I think you're supposed to make some sort of turniquet and wrap it up in that so it doesn't get infected or anything like that.
