I'm not saying what the website is for yet as i don't want to let my idea out, but i need to know if its possible for what i want to do. I want to create some kind of applet, where you have two types of users (visitors and staff) . You will have the visitors that go to the site, and then in the program they are assigned to an online staff member, they can then chat to that staff member in a private chat without any other visitors or staff being able to see what is being said. I would not want the chat logs to be recorded. So i would need it that you can have the visitors who have normal accounts, and then the staff members who when they come online, they are able to "accept visitor" into their chat room, and then when they have finished talking to the visitor, they can "end session". The chat applet would have to be able to allow you to write links, and possible be able to change your font.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Thanks in advance! :)

You will have to check out the answers, but some clearly have missed the mark.
Let me restate the project
Anyone can come sign in on the site.
Those people who login as staff are a special group.
Each non-staff, called a visitor, will be assigned to a staff person and can engage them in a one-on-one chat visible to no one else.
?? Only one chat per staff person or are staff expected to handle multiple chats. ??
"You" may write links and change font. ?? Is this You the programmer, the visitor, or the staff ??

thats easy on Msn Groups you pick the staff all the people can join them but people who join are at lowest rank you can make people higher then others like a manager so in way it is possible but anyone can join thats the problem but than again as long as you have a higher rank and your friends do to it is sort of ok

Just about every large corporation incorporates this into their "chat with rep" function.

Where have you been?

As far as the log is concerned, that's just a matter of programming.

Though, I'd venture to say that the log would exist on the browser's cache.

Sure, depending on the programming language your using. I am not sure what you mean by 'sessions'. Do you want cookies?
