Could be strep or thrush, strep would definitely need a prescription, thrush possibly or something like lotrimin. My family got strep last year, my son and I had strep throat, while my youngest - about 14 months then, just had it as a terrible diaper rash - strep rash.

If he's had a bad diaper rash for the past 2-3 weeks and you've tried everything I would suggest taking him to see his pediatrician. A pediatrician can better advise you on what to do as well as prescribe another kind of ointment if it is something besides just a terrible diaper rash.

You should take him to his ped. It may be a yeast infection. My son is suffering from a diaper rash right now, I think because of the antibiotics hes taking for his ear infection. And don't use any other creams without consulting his doctor. Like the quack that suggested fungus cream. Ask his doc first.

If the rash looks like a bunch of red dots (about the size made by a felt-tip pen), then it's yeast and needs prescription fungicide. Get to the doctor because other creams, such as hydrocortisone, will make it spread and become more inflamed.
Otherwise you can try a little baking soda butt-bath to soothe the skin.

Ok! first you should take the baby back to the doctor and they will give you something for his/her rash.
Second take the baby a long bath soaking the bottom for a long time, then use either what the doctor has giving you for a week. if this doesn't help try the medicine i use on my baby
A&D ointment .(lots of it)
But you must remember to change the diaper everytime he/she feels wet even if it's just a little bit of wetness.

You may need to see a pediatrician for a prescription cure.
But you can try getting some liquid Maalox. Don't shake up the bottle; let all the chalky stuff settle to the bottom, and then pour off the watery part.
Then mix that chalky stuff with Aquaphor, which you can get at any drugstore (although sometimes you have to ask for it). (You can find a recipe for this concoction in "The Girlfriends' Guide to Baby Gear.")
If Maalox/Aquaphor doesn't work, a trip to the doctor is your next stop.

Did you call his pediatrician? There's a new prescription cream out for severe diaper rashes.

I don't know where you are from but in Australia there is a fantastic nappy rash cream called daktozin which you can get from the chemist! It will work on fungal rashes and normal nappy rash! If you can get that i can guarantee that it will work!!

i know alot of people use desitin.. yeh that works sometimes.. but go to like a pharmacy and you have to go to the counter and ask for Flanders Buttox Ointment. Its in like a little tub, like you would get noxema in. Its not presription but i think they keep it behind the counter now. Its way way better than desitin. I promise desitin can't even compare. It is WONDERFUL.

You may want to make a Dr. appointment if it's gone on longer than a week, it could be a yeast rash, and you need a prescription for that.
