What was it like being a teenager in the 1960s?

The 60s were the greatest time in the history of the world to be young. That's because the world was electrified with change for the better, and we were at the forefront of leading that change.
On the other hand, it could also be dangerous - for example, there were guys who would beat the snot out of you because you had long hair.
It was also the only time I can think of when being a belligerent guy who liked to push people around and show off how tough you were by threats or fighting was definitely not cool. Peace was the way.

I worked through school, so did my spouse of fifty years now.
We went to drive-in movies, it was 50 cents a car. Outdoor dances at a regular barn with hay rides was a buck a head. They had hot dogs and sodas, dances and whatever.

We went bowling on week-ends or to a movie. Movies were 9 cents. I was making 89 cents an hour after school.

The cold war was in full swing, a place we couldn't pronounce called Viet Nam was in the news a lot.

The sister Kenny foundation was on trial for fraud. Life was in the slow lane. We didn't worry if the insulation in the house was made of asbestos, or there was mercury in the thermometer or lead in paint, we all survived.

In 1957 on a weds. evening we gathered around the living room, we were all at a friends home, to see this real goofy guy wriggle his hips, the girls went nuts. His name was Elvis, we called him Elvis the pelvis.

It was the coming of the rock and roll age. Somewhere around in here I and my sweety went and saw Bill Haley and the Comets.

better than today. more places to go that were clean places for young people to be. Drive in movies, drive in restaurants.hot rod cars, not trying to be the best dressed, no movies all the time, no DVDs all the time, they had other things to do and have fun. I don't think drugs were close to as bad as they are now. Modesty was still around and more respect was here.....................xx
