I have a ati radeon 1600X graphics card and a windows xp,and im positive it is not whats causing the lag because I played the games before ( mostly counter strike source) and it ran very smoothly on high graphics settings, then at one point i just started getting alot of lag and fps. I turned off other applications, I defragged my computer, i have no idea why it would just start lagging for no apparent reason, also i have a good internet connection and thats also not the problem, p.s i already said this, but I used to play it fine, i changed nothing, and it just started to have low fps and lag heeeelp

how many process you have running. big question. if your use myspace you can get just you dont know you have installing on you. cntrl alt del (task manager) bottom left corner gives you a number. that should be 18 for xp home or 22 for pro/media center ofcourse add a few processes for nortons or a a dozen for mcafee. keep those processes down. look at your CPU graff (in task manger) and your Memory Useage. if you can do this while in the game (ofcourse your game might crash... but still wondering..) you will then see what maxing out. memory or CPU.

that will give you somthing to go on.

think of this. if your running out of memory the computer will fail over to hd. but if your hd is starting to fill up you might be loosing or running out of room for that... so it could skip.

just a few idea's

there is likewise yet another ingredient that motives lag,the sport, usually the beta video games are laggy, because of the fact they're merely in checking out,it has particularly some bugs, gadget faults and such,so which you would be able to no longer fix that lag,you could basically fix it till the sport isn't a beta sport anymore,it somewhat is thoroughly working

Make sure you dont have an Anti Virus program in active monitoring mode. That gave me really bad lag in battlefield.
You may also want to check your memory(RAM) for errors. There are plenty of programs like Memtest out there that are free.

Hi. Something is chewing up your CPU cycles. Use Task Manager to find out what and end that process.

Did you check if your card if not overheating or you could be running out of memory.

Note : With memory size doesnt really matter, speed matters.
