Check out Sarah Vowell's "Assassination Vacation" about the assassinations of Lincoln, Garfield, and McKinley. There's a rumor Warren Harding was murdered by his wife for his philandering, but that's not really an assassination.

John F. Kennedy in November 1963, of course, but I don't believe for a second Lee Harvey Oswald did it.

Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in April 1968, allegedly by James Earl Ray (although in later years, even King's family doubted he was the assassin).

Robert F. Kennedy was shot in June 1968, allegedly by Sirhan Sirhan.

Gerald Ford survived two assassination attempts in August 1975, both within days of each other, IIRC.

Congressman Leo Ryan was killed by the members of the People's Temple (Jim Jones and the poisoned Kool-Aid) in November 1978.

San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and supervisor Harvey Milk were assassinated in November 1978.

Ronald Reagan survived an assassination attempt in 1981 that gravely wounded James Brady.

During Bill Clinton's presidency, I think a plane crashed on the lawn and someone crashed a car into the gates.

There's Lincoln, and JFK that were successful (unfortunately), but not all succeeded. The guy who tried to kill Reagan almost killed him, but he recovered. Also, I think Saddam tried to assassinate Bush senior.

I'd suggest searching on the internet for political assassinations and go from there. There have probably been a lot of attempts that we don't have much info on.
