My printer is a cannon, with 5 seperate cartrages. Can't remember exact model but it is abut 2 years old.

It refuses to print unless ALL of the cartrages have what IT thinks, in it's own deranged opinion, are sufficently full cartrages.

Firstly: It decidedes they are empty when they are clearly still 10% full, so i have to waste the last bit of ink.

Secondly: It insists the cartrages are ALL full, even if they are not all needed. So if I run out of yellow, as i just did, it won't even let me print in black and white till it has a full yellow cartrage.

This is some crazed conspiracy with the cartrage manufacturer i'm sure!

Any tips?

Refill the cartridges with compatible ink will do.. But compatible ink will jam your print head very soon. So... U really can't do anything.... (I used this model b4) I still refill it.. to kill the printer, before changing a new one. If u print everyday, compatible ink won't jam your print head for a while.

Try.. HP... as long as print head is stick with the cartridges, then u can use compatible ink.. (i refill myself)
100ml just cost me USD4.5
Print head jam? buy a new cartridges.

The black is not a true black. Anytime your are printing it is underlying colour so that is why it will not just print black. IN almost everything you print it is using all 5 of your cartridges. The reason why it will not print is that if you heat a the print head without any ink running through it you will warp the print head, and effectively destroy the printer.

Canon also considered it an empty cartridge when the ink reservoir is empty. This is because the sponge system cannot give a consistent flow of ink.

All printers now do this. Epson pioneered the process all the others just followed suit.

As for a solution, you really have no choice but to replace the yellow.

Hi. Remove the yellow cartridge then replace it and say it's full. Some units have a chip that will not let you do this. If so, just replace the yellow with a new one. (There are chip re setters for those who refill the cartridges, but they are pricey.)
