This problem is actually quite easy.
Since it's five to the second power (Or five squared) you would do 5x5.
But in this case, you have -5, so you multiply -5 by -5, which is the same as multiplying 5 by 5, which equals 25.
And since you are multiplying two negative numbers, the answer is positive.
Therefore, the answer is 25.

Hi,
1) Any number and its included sign raised to an even power is a positive number.
2) A number and its sign raised to an odd power keeps its sign.
So, (-5)² = 25 because the negative sign is included in the squaring process. (-5)*(-5)
Note that:
-5² = -25 because that is -(5)*(5).
FE.

25.
One way to think about it.
(-5)=(-1)*5.
-1^2=1, 5^2=25. (-1*5)^2=1*25=25.

As is a square of a number, it has to be positive. Any number negative or positive will have as square a positive number.
(-5)²=(-5)x(-5)=5x5=25
the only way a square number seem to be negative is when a minus (-) is in front (the exponent is calculated before taking care of the minus):
-5²= -(5x5) = -(25) = -25

25, because -5*-5 is the same as (-5)(-5).
