yes..Portugal had sailed along Africa's western coast and traded with Africans..and Chris him self had done this as well..

Yes, they were all over North Africa. The Moors who conquered Spain and were later driven out by Ferdinand and Isabella were from North Africa.

Africa was a Portugese thing so, in terms of serious interest, no.
But it's just across the straits of Gibraltar, so thay are bound to have been there some time or other, even by being blown off-course.
