I do not think Abraham Lincoln was a dictator.

He was elected twice, in 1860 and in 1864.

Who would have voted for a dictator, particularly the second time around, in the middle of a civil war?

Because he committed acts that were against Constitutional law I believe he was a dictator. The acts he committed are as follows:

1. creation of what has been termed the "American Bastille" prison camps for those not in agreement with his policies, such as newspaper owners, editors and reporters.
2. suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus, which originally and still requires an accused person to stand before a judge, this is under Article 1 of the U. S. constitution.
3. Tried to have Chief Justice Taney arrested because he tried to tell Lincoln he could not force the Southern states to stay in the Union and he could not have the Maryland legislature arrested.
4. The Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in the states which had seceded from the Union, not in the North. This was a punitive act against the South and the South only. The slaves in New Orleans were freed only after it was occupied by Union soldiers.
5. The disparity between his personal beliefs about slavery is evident in the fact that it was slaves that erected the Statue of Freedom on the Capitol Building in Washington D. C. in1863.
6. He "rigged" the election of 1864.

I hope this is enough to go on. Check these facts before proceeding.

I don't think so. He did what he thought was best to preserve the union. He was not that interested in the ending of slavery, but he signed the Emancipation Proclamation because he felt it would strengthen the union and provide a cause for the war. His main goal was the preservation of the union.
