Why ask when you know?
Other people opinion or something else....

Sort of like God, Why does He ask questions and He already know the answers. To see if you know you know the answers. I know sounds kind of confusing.

If you're talking about a fact, I don't really have any idea. Maybe to double check if you're unsure or just to start a conversation.

If you're talking about something that is your opinion - abortion rights, for example - you could maybe get different points of view, aspects or situations you hadn't yet considered, or just an idea of the person's values and way of thinking.

There are plenty of reasons to ask a question other than to receive a direct answer..

I think people are curious to know why other people have the opinions they do, not just what those opinions are.

People's opinions are shaped by their fundamental religous and philosophical beliefs, their culture, and their life experiences.

Gaining insight into why other people think the way they do can sometimes get you to reconsider things you hadn't questioned before.

Because for every truth, there is an opposite that sounds just as good, makes just as much sense appeals to the other side of you. Without darkness there would be no light. Some feelings that compel you to ask are that you really want the opposite to be true, want others to know what you know, want to discuss it...
