It is not the US that is threatened, unless Iran puts a nuke in the cargo hold of a super tank filled with the outrageously priced oil we buy and park it in new york. Which they could do very easy.

On the other hand they are a treat to every free nation with in their missile reach.

The real question should be, "are we the American people really willing to let a radical fanatical religion have that kind of power.

Just remember this....to this date the only nuclear weapons used in war was by America. And it was to end a war. That's what nukes do. They end things. Iran with a nuke would end the world peace as we know it. Unstable as it is, it would come to an end.

So to answer your question...In the grand scheme of things, yes they are.

No. Iran has no capacity to mount a serious attack on the US, even if they wanted to.

Even assuming that they are trying to develop nuclear weapons (entirely likely) and succeed, it will be years--probably at least a decade--before they could successfully deliver one.

Which seems to me to allow time to attempt diplomatic means of dealing with the Iranian government, rather than all this yapping and posturing about war.

EDIT--as to Iran providing weapons to Iraqis--that's not a "big" threat. I'm not suggesting we should ignore it--a real effort to interdict that should be made. But look--anytime you hae a military conflict with an opponent who des not have an internal arms industry--they will get their weapons from someone. That goes with the territory, so to speak. It's not a jsutification for war.

Bush administration has learned how to use fear mongering to acheive their ends. The others have already said it look at the technolgy in Iran. Beside thatwhy should it be that the U.S and any country they control are the only ones allowed to own and manufacture weapons of destruction? From what I've seen of the U.S I'm not sure we can trust the goverment there anymore than we could trust any country.

Hell no! We have more nuclear weapons in one submarine than Iran would have in ten years. Same for North Korea. This hype put out by this administration is so ..........(can't find a word for this bulls**t). It's called brainwashing. How anyone with a small amount of brains could believe this constant bombardment of the fear factor from the people in control of the government is unbelievable. IT'S ABOUT THE OIL!!!!!!!!!!

Iran is no threat to the US at all.

Even if they developed nuclear weapons -- a process which would take years if not decades based on their current technology -- it would take yet more years for them to develop the means to deliver such warheads against US targets.

And if Iran attacked the US with nuclear weapons -- we'd wipe them from the face of the map -- any leader would.

No -- it's purely political posturing -- so that Bush has another enemy he can point at to make people scared.

I think you need to change your question around to "Is the U.S. really a big threat to Iran". The problem is that we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, both countries on Iran's border. If Russia invaded Canada and Mexico and installed puppet governments, would we be threatened? I think we are just looking for another war to fight and feed the Military/Industrial Complex Eisenhower warned us about. We have spent 100's of billions of dollars to fight a group that spent maybe 500k.

Are you kidding me? A third world theocracy with 70 year old technology that can't even develop a nuke with no inteference. In case you haven't noticed North Korea has done loads more work than Iran and even they can't hit the Pacific Ocean with a missile.

In a direct nation-to-nation confrontation? Probably not.

In arming a clandestine terrorist group with a nuke that can be smuggled into a Western city and set off? You bet.
