Some people want to remove it -- because they don't think the US govt should be advocating in favor of monotheistic religions -- or any religion for that matter.
It's not up to the citizens if it's unconstitutional -- until and unless the citizens change the constitution to allow the govt to support religion.
The constitution prohibits the US govt from supporting one religion over any other -- and just because a majority of people want one dominant religion doesn't give them the ability to force what they want. Unless they change the constitution to allow one dominant religion.
Also, remember the motto was only added consistently in the last century -- it doesn't go back to the founding of the country.

1. This has been talked about before. Nearly every generation experiences discussion of that.
2. I have heard that too. Perhaps there is a movement to have our motto removed from our money. Congress could do that. Without them, who represent us, it can't be changed. I doubt that is going to happen.
3. Yes, there are some who are going to continue to press for the removal of the word God from money and everything else. They will fail. After all they don't seem to have any problem spending the money with the word God on it.

They've already done it - sort of. On the new presidential dollar coins, the phrases "In God We Trust" and "E Pluribus Unum", and the date are on the side of the coin , not the face or reverse. Its so small I can barely see it.
No, the citizens cannot make the choice, only elected officials.
I think it stinks. The politically correct crowd has won again. And the spineless in Congress let them get away with it.

It is truly clear cut.
The Constitution NO where mentions GOD. The creator yes, GOD NO.
Our government, no matter what your religious belief, should NOT have anything that is related to ANY GOD or GODLIKE figure.
Its called Separation of Church and State, and it being on our money, a federally regulated currency, makes it a direct violation of the constitution. That is called treason and our government should understand that in NO uncertain terms.
Too bad the religious people out there do not see or want to see that fact.
Keep your religion in your hearts, home and church's, but OUT of my government.

I always thought that 'In god we trust' was but an abbreviation of the original American saying, 'In god we trust, all other pay cash'.
