My husband works 12 hour shifts 5 p.m. - 5 a.m. Monday night thru Friday night. I work during the day. I have nothing to do when he is at work. We can't have kids, and my only hobby - the only thing I'm really good at - is cooking. What fun is that if there's nobody around to taste it? I just want some ideas of something to do besides sitting on my rear in front of the TV.

You can cultivate that cooking skill and keep stuff in the freezer. You can share it with friends and family, and offer them the recipes of your creations as well. A friend of mine takes her cooking masterpieces to work and is very popular for being an excellent cook! You can also start thinking a little bit later on about doing some catering on the side...if you ever want to make a little bit of extra money.

I would take classes, if I were you. There are some cooking classes offered in my City just one night a week. It's enough to keep you out of trouble, but not so much studying with your nose in a book.

However, if you do like the nose-in-the-book sort of studying, then I would take a class or two when he's not home. Just to keep your mind nice and fresh.

If you enjoy children and you cant have them. Why not find a way to volunteer? Be a scout leader, a Big Sister, etc.
Join a bowling league, walk with a walking club, take continuing ed classes at a community college, join a gym. There are so many things to do. Look around

Meet with some gal pals and get together for a cook-out once a week. The other nights, clean your house, take a relaxing bath, go to sleep, and wake up with a smile when hubby comes home...always time for a little romance.

Read, go to school, invite girlfriends over for dinner, volunteer at soup kitchens, museums, libraries, or theatres, get a puppy, adopt or foster a child, be the kool-aid mom on your street, scrapbook, teach evening cooking classes to women and young girls in your neighborhood (extra money maker too), take meals to the elderly and shut-ins, put together a cookbook and sell it,...the list goes on and on! Good luck and have fun!

If you like to cook, you could think of new inventive recipes and compile them into a cook book, or go to a local assisted living home and teach them easy ways to cook GREAT meals, it will give you something to do and it will make them feel great especially with the holidays coming up, most of them don't get regular visitors.

I think classes are a great idea. But, offering your time to non-profits would also benefit you! Just today I was reading about a local non-profit theatre looking for help to operate the ticket booth, or be ushers at their performances -- you even get to see the play for free! Use your time wisely and you will bring more to your relationship!
