We lived at the end of a two Lane dead end road that went river to river, The local Government put up a metal gate at the entrance to a public park for hikers, horse riding, walkers, fishers, bird and nature watchers, The gate just appeared with no warning, when we called to find out why, it turned out they wanted to take this park away from the general public and open it to duck hunters only! (Funny, our county commissioner was a duck hunter!) Their justification was duck hunters might accidentally shoot a person. There were only about 40 people down the entire street but we all got together, and complained all the way to senators and the Governor, it took us a year, but we did get our park back, but much of it had been destroyed by the trucks and boats that had been driven on the trails, oh an important piece of information is only certain duck hunters had keys to the gates, so it wasn't even open to all hunters! They left the place littered with ammo shells beer and drink bottles and cans, and we had to clean it up ourselves because we couldn't get them to do it.

They prevented me from sitting out in a park overnight watching the stars -- because of laws against vagrancy.

They forced me to spend 8 months getting my passport renewed and 2 days getting my drivers license transferred because I move around too often for their comfort level.

They've banned fencing in many public parks -- because of weapons laws that were intended to stop gang warfare -- reducing my ability to teach and train medieval martial arts.

That's three -- personal effects -- based on things I like to do.

And there are all the rights that have been taken away from others -- because I consider those MY rights as well. The right to hold a banner on a public street without having some schoolteacher rip it from my hands. The right to not be dragged to some other country because my politics are questionable. The right to counsel. The right to challenge my detention in court. I haven't needed those -- but the fact they've been taken away from others means they've been taken away from all of us.
