There are a couple of nice easy tricks.

Trick 1:
1. Go into the mine lobby.
2. Immediately save you game.
3. Dig up the floor with your hoe, remembering where you find stuff.
4. Load your save game.
5. Dig up ONLY the squares that had things.
6. Leave the mine lobby, then repeat as necessary.

You can then sell what you dug up for a useful amount of early cash. It takes a lot of real world time, but only a few hours of game time, to make 10,000 or more.

Trick 2: Requires that Mine 2 be open, I HIGHLY recommend carrying some Turbo Jolt and other restoratives with you.
1. Descend in the mine, using Trick 1 to increase your efficiency.
2. Once you reach floor 100, this trick starts.
3. Continue down the mine. One ever floor number dividable by 3 and/or 10, save as soon as you appear.
4. In at least one rock on the floor will be either a Pink Diamond (on floors /3) or Alexandrite (floors /10). Preform Trick 1 to get the gem with 1 hammer strike.

These gems sell for 10,000 EACH. Sell them to Vann to get even more money since he offers bonus money. Just keep offering to sell to him, then refusing, until you have a good price.
