You need to see your Dr to get birth control pills. Usually your Dr has a particular pill they like to give when you first start out on the pill. Usually they give you a "mini-pill" - it does not have quite as much hormones but does prevent ovulation and therefore, pregnancy. Sometimes you have to try different pills to find the right one for you.

The most important things to be aware of when taking the pill -
1. take it every day - at about the same time each day
2. if you get sick and are put on an antibiotic (esp. anything with penicillin) it can void the birth control pill and you will need to use a back up method until you complete the antibiotic and for several weeks after wards.
3. avoid herbal supplements- these can also affect the BC.

Most pregnancies that happen while on the pill happen because of missed pills or because of medications that interfered.

When you see your Dr - he/she should be able to give you much more information.

Well first of all please be careful because as you probably know.... birth control will prevent pregnancy but not disease. there are many good products out there and typically you take a bill once daily at the same time every day. Your periods are usually more regular and even lighter while on the pill but of course this varies by person.
