Should I buy a demo bike with 4000kms on it, or should I just get a new one. It's only 2G cheaper. It's been checked and has a two year warranty starting from the time I buy it. It's a 2007 Fat Boy. How crucial is the break-in period, which probably wasn't adhered to, considering every kind of rider would have been riding this bike? Any long term issues, or would the check up and warranty take care of all that? Any suggestions?

Plan on selling it while it's still under warranty.
Demo bikes are not broken in properly.
Potential customers beat the crap out of them to check their performance (they're not their bikes, so they don't have to worry).
If multiple customers have demoed the bike, it never gets check out between rides.
Shop personal that use the bikes, beat on them also, under the impression "it it breaks, the shop will fix it".
Since it's under warranty, you're covered if any problems should arise.

Everyone has an opinion about break in periods, personally I've gone both ways and it all seemed a wash. If the bike got a bunch of miles from one rider, it was either an employee or a customer they trusted to lend the bike out to for a long weekend.
It is unlikely it was thrashed...liability issues

If you have a warranty and like the bike go for it, spend the extra 2K on cool leather.

Break in periods really depend on the individual bike. It all depends if everything in the engine/tranny sat right. Also, the bike could have been dropped, but that doesn't really matter as long as it looks good. Don't believe the other guy about trusting customers to take demo rides. Anybody can usually do it. We even had one guy who tried to steal the demo bike. He didn't know how to ride a bike, though, so he wiped out in the parking lot and about 10 people tackled him.

A mate of mine works at a bike shop.... he takes a different demo bike home every weekend. He looks after them but from what i hear not all the sales guys give a toss and fang it.

I'm sure there wouldn't be anything to bad.

sounds like you have a good deal with the bike I would go ahead and get it ,it's still under the factory warranty so they will take care of anything that might happen .

As long as it has the same warranty as a new bike and isn't sratched or damaged in any way you'll be fine.
