When you have a hysterectomy, they take out everything except for your ovaries (usually to prevent early menopause). Without the uterus, you don't have periods.

No doctor will give a woman a hysterectomy unless there is a serious medical condition, unfortunately. They will only tie off your tubes - which is not foolproof.

Having a tubal ligation to sterilize yourself is only the cutting and "tying" of the fallopian tubes. Actually, the tubes have a small piece removed and the ends are burned shut. You still get your period. The heaviness or lightness of your period is dependent on hormones, which are regulated by your ovaries which are not part of tying your tubes. Hysterectomy's are only done in extreme cases, not to sterilize a woman, and without a uterus a woman does not have a period. I wish I could tell you differently if you looking to have a tubal ligation. I have had a tubal ligation and one ovary removed and I still get a period.

Depends on what type of sterilization procedure you have.

Although there are many different options when it comes to sterilization - having a hysterectomy is when you have your uterus removed. If you do not have a uterus - then you do not have a period. In a tubal ligation (having your tubes tied) then the uterus is not removed and you still have a period.
