x^(2/3) + 2x^(1/3) - 8 = 0

Let y = x^(1/3)

y^2 + 2y - 8 = 0

(y + 4)(y - 2) = 0

y = - 4, y = 2

Now we have

x^(1/3) = - 4 and x^(1/3) = 2

x = - 64 and x = 8

Solve the equation. x 2/3 - 2x 1/3 - 8 = 0

Since the middle term is an x 1/3–term, we break the x 2/3 into x 1/3 by x 1/3,

and

(x 1/3 + 2)( x 1/3 - 4) = 0,
x 1/3 + 2 = 0, x 1/3 - 4 = 0,
x 1/3 = - 2 , x 1/3 = 4.

To get back to x, let’s cube both sides of the equations.

(x 1/3 )3 = (- 2)3 , (x 1/3 )3 = (4)3 ,

Answer: x = - 8 and x = 64.

Let y = x^1/3. The equation becomes y^2 - 2y - 8 = (y - 4)(y + 2) = 0, which gives solutions y = 4 and y = -2. So, x^1/3 = 4 and x^1/3 = -2 imply that x = 64 and x = -8.

x^2/3 + 2x^1/3 - 8 = 0
Let u = x^1/3
Then u^2+2u-8 = 0
(u+4)(u-2) = 0
u = - 4 and u = 2
x^1/3 = -4
x = -64
x^1/3= 2
x = 8
