You really don't have much expense hanging over your head; however, what is your income? If you are paying $300 and having issues with saving.... Then I don' t know if you will be able to afford real rent, electric, heat, telephone, cable, internet, etc.
Why don't you look online for an apartment in one of those areas you mentioned and see what the going rate is for 1 bed or even a studio.
good luck

How much do you make a month?
I would pay off the credit card debt and the student loans. If your parents aren't kicking you out, then don't leave until your debt is gone.
The $300 you pay your parents now, will be pocket change with your own place. Don't forget rent and utilites, plus food for the WHOLE week. And laundry. Will your apartment have it or do you need to use a laundry mat. They are expenisve about $2 a wash and then $2 a dry. 4 bucks a load. If you have 2 loads, twice a week. Two load of clothes, then one load of towels and don't forget to wash your sheets weekly..........that's $16, plus the cost of soap powder.
Stay at home to like 25, pay off the debts.......then move out. Living with your parents might suck. But being financial unstable is FAR worse.
I'm 23 and just got my first full time job. I'll be going to school for my master's next fall (my employeer is paying) I plan on staying here until 25 and I'm done with school. I'm saving my money and paying off loans and some nasty credit card debt. Debt IS no way to live your life.
So, what if your 22. Let people talk. I'd rather be debt free at 22, then living beyond my means in an apartment I could not afford........getting deeper and deeper into debt.

If you have a job that pays all you bills and leaves you some left over, you might be able to do it. First try to consolidate all your debt into one loan as so you have one payment. Stop using your credit card. Spend the money that is available for spending after all your bills are payed.
If I were you I would stay home and pay off all my debt.
Save some money and then move out.
If you move out now it will put back with no light out of the tunnel.
The expenses are very high on your own with not a very well paying job.
You need to bite the bullet for now.

If you can barely afford the 300 rent you are paying now, I would guess you could not get an apartment in a "top city". You didn't mention how much you make. Try getting a roommate or living in a more reasonable area.

You're 22 it's no longer a case of "affordability." Leave. I know how nice Atlanta, Los Angeles and Chicago are, but really there are nice places that cost less and give you a chance to get some good work experience and compete for the positions in bigger cities. You'll get there. But don't rush it. Your wonderful life is just beginning! I envy you.

Haven't been in a situation where I could really make a comment for yours...but I will say get rid of the car. Use the bus or walk in the city. Well, not LA, everyone has to drive there.

Sure you can! To help try to look into a roommate, that way you could split the bills and still be okay. Just be careful on who you choose and make sure they are as responsiable as yourself. You should do fine!
