MAKE SURE THE POWER IS TURNED OFF!
I use needle nose pliers to grip the base & turn it.
Grab the metal part, not the glass, it will break.

Robert S gave good advice, I would add wear eye protection since small pieces of glass may break off and fall. Also a little dab of vasoline on threads of the new bulb may help for next time. This is a good trick for outdoor bulbs which tend to corode in place.

Some people have used potatoes. Or another light bulb with a larger base. Stick it into the stuck one & twist it out.

i have had that happen and i did exactly what Robert S suggested....... just make sure that in addition to the switch being OFF..... go to WalMart or Steve's Tools or HomeDepot and get neeldle nose pliers that have insulated handles......

the ones that you were going to borrow from the neighbor next door that is 72 years old may not be insulated!

being safe means never having to be sorry!

You're kidding, right?

Shut the switch off and use a wooden (no metal parts) clothespin to unscrew the bulb's base.
