Let D = weight of a duck
Let d = weight of duckling
First statement says:
(1) 3D + 2d = 14
Second statement says:
(2) (3D + 2d) +D + d = 19
(2) 4D + 3d = 19
Multiply equation (1) by 4:
(1) 12D + 8d = 56
Multiply equation (2) by 3:
(2)12D + 9d = 57
Subtract equation (1) form equation (2):
(2) 12D + 9d = 57
-(1) 12D + 8d = 56
d = 1
(1) 3D + 2d = 14
3D + 2(1) = 14
3D = 12
D = 4
One child and two mothers:
1d + 2D = 1 + 2(4) = 9kilograms
