Slavery was abolished in the United States in 1862. You cannot own a slave, no... However, outside the US there is what is commonly referred to as a "slave trade".

It depends on the country -- in many nations, yes.
In the US -- only children can be "owned" in that fashion -- because the laws effectively allow parents to treat children as slaves and control everything that happens to them -- any other form of slavery is banned by the 13th Amendment.

Today, it is entirely illegal. But, sadly, it still happens. Many poor girls are part of an illegal system called sex trade in which girls are frankly, sold for sex.
