He was a hero of the Cuban Revolution. But he was not so successful in South America. He was killed in an ambush in Bolivia in 1967. I think that he has had a much greater impact since his death than when he was alive. He has become a symbol of revolution against the power structure in Central and South America- the Church, the Army and the wealthy families. And of course what Marxist revolutionaries consider U.S. imperialism. He has become a symbol. His face has become an icon that appears on posters and clothes that are worn by many people who are dissatisfied by existing political conditions.
