The servicemember's contract, which is based on the work of lots of lawyers over more than 200 years, is pretty well ironclad and prevents any lawsuits by the servicemember or his family.
However, if your spouse dies in the line of duty, particularly in wartime, there IS a package of benefits which you are entitled to. I've been out of the service a long time, so I don't know the exact benefits anymore, but they include cash, help with expenses, and education assistance for you and your children. A benefits counselor or ombudsman can help you more.

no, because they wanted to go to the Military, it's a personal choice not compulsory.
