Ca. by a country mile - with the exception of L.A.

There is something about Texas which doesn't appeal to me. I have visited quite a few times and still go back, each time trying to like it, but I just don't.

I've lived in the Bay Area in California, and I've lived in Austin. One could argue those are the two best places to live in both states.

I'd rather live in California. Why?

1. The ocean and the mountains are in very close driving proximity. Fun stuff to do there.
2. The weather along the California coast is better than anywhere else in the northern hemisphere.
3. Jobs. Lots of jobs. In growing industries.
4. People. In Texas, everyone is white American or Hispanic, with a few blacks thrown in. In California, you have a total melting pot.
5. Due to the people, you get all kinds of restaurants to check out.
6. California has a cool governor.
7. Real international airports for when you want to get away.
8. A more live-and-let-live attitude in California than Texas.
9. No hurricanes. Earthquakes, yes, but they don't happen every year. Hurricanes do.
10. Can't surf in Texas, unless there are hurricanes - and then I will pass.

Now on the other side, the cost of living in California is high. But you get what you pay for.

And on the other hand, though we have Laker Girls, Raiderettes and Gold Rush cheerleaders, we don't have the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. But all in all I will also take California girls over Texas girls.

I currently live in California, and have visited Texas. I prefer California, because it doesn't get nearly as hot. When it comes to the cost of living, California is much more expensive to live in.

I would take California, but you need to compare actual locations, not whole states.

Doesn't California have good university access for it's residents. That could be a tie breaker.

I'd check out individual locations, there is a huge difference between living on a fault line or not!!!

Depends --- if you are young.....move to California and enjoy life.
The beach makes great memories for when you grow old.
If you are older....move to Texas. You can find a big house for a reasonable amount of money plus no state income taxes.

Texas, California is too crowded, plus it is so dry they have lots of wild fires. A lot of good jobs in Texas too. Go Cowboys.
