Orange, being the most prevalent autumn tone, is derived from the pumpkin and leaves. Halloween was once (and still may be in some areas) a festival of the dead. Death is usually associated with darkness and absence of light signified by the color black.

Black is pretty obvious (being night) and orange is the color of pumpkins, which usually relate to Halloween.

It's developed naturally...black is the colour of the night and all things dark and scary and orange is the colour of pumkins...I would hazard a guess that the colour scheme has only been popular since arounf the 1920s......I guess this because I am a collector of old paper advertisements and greetings cards...Ive never seen anything halloween related that was earlier than 1920....

orange and black aren't really officially halloween colors
but black is a dominating color in many halloween decorations because signs that were thought to be "bad omens" are black: black cat, bats, spiders
are all black
and orange is for pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns
so there you go (:

Halloween was from Europe. France I think and the local residents were into this thing that every year at night you ask Trick or Treat to see if that person is The Evil Witch or not. If it the witch, she will say trick and treat to give something of valuable( in the US they give candy to lit kids).

I guess because pumpkins are orange and a black cat usually goes with a witch.

Black signifies death, night, withches, black cats, stuff like that. Orange signifies autumn, turning leaves, and fire. These are pretty much the origins too.
