Bunch of hooey.

What you see trailing behind a jet are contrails -- they're the water vapor from the jet engines condensing into water or ice. There are different appearances for the same reasons that there are different forms of clouds.

Chemtrails exist. however, in trying to find information about them, you have to be careful. A lot of crackpots and conspiracy nuts have fixated on the "chemtrail" concept.

Basically, they aren't "trails"--that's just a convenient label. They are the exaust from high-flying jet aircraft. Since the planes are real--obviously the "chemtrails" are!.

The real science: currently scientists are looking at the possible effects of this high-altitude emission o fwhat is basically smog (remember, jets run on kerosene just as cars run on gasoline). There is evidence that they have the effect of blocking part o fthe Sun's radiation--and so may be masking/limiting the effects of global warming to some degree.

HOWEVER: this is a hypothesis, not a proven theory. The evidence seems strong, but there is no scientific consensus as yet--and may not be for years.

I watched a video which a freind gave me. He believes the government is either trying to poison us or change the weather using chemicals in jet fuel. thus - chemtrails.

Most of the video had jumps to conclusion which I generally catagorize as psuedoscience. The filmaker did bring up some evidence which I couldn't explain, though. That doesn't mean it's unexplainable. I just couldn't explain it. Like gaps in the contrails which looked really unnatural. Could have been an engine was in some weird sputtering mode or, that the contrail was right on the edge of an inversion layer. I wasn't convinced that there's some conspiracy going on.
