It's natural to experiece some foot swelling or pedal edema when pregnant and slightly afterwards due to hormonal changes; but also something you should be careful about. It could be a sign of high blood pressure.

Try drinking lots of water and cutting your salt. This includes canned foods- which are typically high in sodium. Sit with your feet at the same level as your heart to help the swelling go down, too...

If none of this works to even start reducing the swelling, call your doctor.

This is pretty common. You may retain water for a few days after you deliever. Just be sure that you are still urinating a good amount. If you find that the swelling doesn't go down with in the next two -three days ( or if they swell bigger than they have, are painful or discolored) or if you stop peeing, I'd contact your doctor for an antidiuretic which will help you to pee out the water instead of retaining it.
Congrats on your little one!!!

O0o0oh boy do they swell, mine were horrible! And the hospital didnt tell me that either. It is very normal, and the best help I can offer you is take a pair of mens tube socks and put on and elevate your feet. Mine hurt so bad I could barely bend them. Mine went down about 2 weeks later. Also you will laugh when the swelling goes down because they look "too Skinny" then.

Good Luck!

#1 bananas--potassium in levels that won't hurt baby.
#2 caffiene--as much as won't hurt the baby.
#3 elevate feet--above heart.
#4 compress feet--wear a couple of ace bandages around feet so extra water has to go someplace else (hopefully--the bladder!).

It shouldn't be long. Like the 3rd day, maybe 4th after my son, I went to the bathroom and I couldn't believe how much I peed. Felt like 5 gallons. Did that a couple of times and the problem was solved.

Take care, sweetheart, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I had the same thing happen to me. My doctor put me on a diuretic and with 24 hrs the swelling went down and my feet felt 100 times better. Ask your doc.

Yes, my legs were so swollen I couldn't lift them up into bed, they were like tree trunks. I drank LOTS of water and sat with them elevated as much as possible. Congratulations on the baby.

Did you have an epidural? They kept checking my legs and feet for swelling-you might want to call your doctor.
