In some areas, legal address refers to the parcel and lot number, which bears little resemblance to the actual postal address.

If you can expand your question a bit more perhaps you will get a more specific answer.

Legal Address Definition

It depends on what purpose you want to know for. Your legal residence can be different under different state laws, depending on whether you are asking for purposes of voting, qualifying for in-state tuition, for having a lawsuit served on you, etc. Each of these has a different law which defines Legal address or residence.

In general, your residence is the place you intend to make your residence. If you have left a place intending not to return, usually it is not your residence whether or not you are still on the lease.

But you might still have to pay rent there. "A legal address" is a phrase not usually used in the law -- you can have lots of addresses, and can receive mail at a post office box too -- which might be a "legal address" but not anywhere anyone lives.

Your legal address is what you use for official purposes such as tax reporting.

Just because your name is on a lease does not make the premises your legal address unless you use the premises as such. Also, you don't have to live on the premises to use it as your legal address -- just as long as you can get official correspondences there.

(That said, the lease may have a clause defining your 'legal address' for purposes of the lease. This is only between you and the landlord).

As an aside, "legal description," not "legal address" is used to describe real property for purposes of taxes and transfer.

A Legal address is one that you recieve postal mail at, and reside for more then 90 days in a calender year. This is the definition used by the government.
So even if your name is on a lease it does not mean that you are a resident or that this is a legal address.
