Help. I need some ideas for a space heater that will heat a large bedroom but also be portable enough for my 83 year old mom to move around. It needs to be safe too! So I don't worry. Any ideas?

I use a DeLonghi oil filled radiator type heater. It is not 'instant' heat, like the ceramic or coil type heaters, but it is more efficient. It also has a 'tip switch' that will turn it off if the unit gets turned over. (nothing will leak, its just a good safety feature to prevent it from continuing to run while laying on the floor). This particular model has 2 heat buttons. Select one or the other for low, or medium heat, and both for high. There is also a temperature dial. I believe this unit was about $50 new. Here is a link to the type I am talking about - but it can typically be found at local stores. http://appliances.pricegrabber.com/heaters/m/3031086/

The small ceramic micro heaters put out a fantastic amount of heat and would do the job, Be sure it has a thermostat that can be set so the heater will go on and off as the room heats up. Also insure the receptacle circuit you plug it into is adequate for the amperage of the heater and make sure nothing can get thrown over it like clothing.

The ceramic heaters work well, but can be a problem if placed too close to furniture or bedding.
They will turn themselves off if tipped over , but did manage to melt the side of a chair when it got turned wrong way.
The oil filled type are probably safest & are thermostatically controlled.
Some have wheels.
Best regards

The best electric portables are the oil filled type.
The ones that look like a old fashioned radiator are on wheels and are easy to move around.
There is no open flame, or exposed elements to get burned on.
