thanks everyone that didnt have a smart comment, i had asked another question and gotten the response to break my own water, i would not do this, and was just wondering how or why someone would! i have read that 1 in 20 women will deliver on their due date, i was just wondering if more people had signs leading up to it, or if just came out of the ordinary! thanks again bye

To break your own water, you would have to strip your membranes, and that is something you should NEVER try on your own.
Only a trained doctor or midwife should strip the membranes and they use properly sterilized tools and must be very careful not to injure the birth canal, the cervix or the baby.
If you are due Thursday, then you are very close to the end and the best and healthiest thing to do is to BE PATIENT and let baby come when its ready.
Yes, you could go into labor with no warning. It could be today, Thursday or next week. There's no way to tell for sure. Enjoy the surprise!

This must be your first child, you must be young, and you are probably uneducated. Do not take that as an insult but do take this advice. Childbirth has been taking place for a long time. You need not do anything to help. You have already done everything you need to do. (granted you are being responsible and you have pre-natal care) The baby will come when it is ready. And if not, a medical professional, (not a bunch of idiots on yahoo answers) needs to decide what actions to take. Congratulations and make sure you have someone responsible around to help you take care of your baby.

first don't try to break your own water. my first 3 births I never had any clue. The first two came two nights before my due date and even the night before had no idea. The contraction just started and never knew. Never had any kind of bloody show, water breaking, now mucus plug nothing, just stared. Then my 3rd again no idea but he came a weeks before the due date. I would say be in for a surprise, it's could happen any time! also, if you need some one to talk to im me! good luck!

Don't break your water, besides many women go into labor and their water does not break naturally. If this is your first baby you may go past your due date.
I just found out I'm 3 cm dialated and have not had any real labor symptoms.
Hang in there! You will def. know when the time comes!

Definitley do not try to break your own water...that will only lead to risks to you and your unborn child.
There are other ways to try an induce labor...one that doctors recommend is sex, believe it or not...there is something in the sperm that can help things along!
Take a long walk that sometimes can bring on contractions, if your body is ready.
Good luck!

There is a great chance that you would get an infection that could harm you and your unborn child. Do not do it, please, for both of your saftey. If you do not go into labor on your own, a highly trained doctor will induce you and probably break your water for you. Just wait it out... it'll be better in the long run.

I wouldn't be breaking your own water--that's the job of trained professional. You're due Thursday, no need to worry quiet yet. Keep consulting with your physician/midwife. You should be right. You like as not in good hands with them.

Show how dumb you are, go ahead break your own water..
AND HOPE:
The baby is not breech or even worse, a footling breech. In which case you get a C-section.
The umbilical cord does not fall out and get blocked off. In which case you get a C-section, dead baby or brain damaged baby.
You go into labor and deliver within 24 hours, otherwise you get a C-section and perhaps an infection.

NO WAY!! Don't do this!!
It can cause an infection, the baby can get hurt in the process, and u can get seriously harmed..
the only way it'll break is naturally OR by a dr once u get to the hosp.

yes,
my first, the doctor said if no labor by due date then he will break water and induce and that's exactly what happened.
you can only go so far over your due date, so dr must break water and induce if your don't go into labor after water broken.
