Bob Marley was the one for me. Before then, I was "Heavy Metal Only."

For me, it wasn't a musician, so to speak, but a director.
Having had the honor and priveledge of performing under the direction of Col. Arnold Gabriel, USAF, and later US Band Director Emeritus, the way I thought about music would never be the same. As far as I can tell, this is the angel himself. I have never witnessed any man that came anywhere CLOSE to this man's abilities, and probably never will. There's a few pics of him on Google, if you care to look. And, he's now retired in the northern VA area, and still alive. He served as a machine gunner in the 29th infantry, and was reassigned in 1941...just as the war broke out. He never looked back, and gained the highest possible titles and recognition a person has ever attained in his field...and all of those titles and honors do not even do this man credit! You'd have to have seen him perform to appreciate what I'm telling you.

I've been listening to musicals like "Carmen Jones" and realized that it takes real talent. I've also being listening to the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack. I have also rediscovered "Real Music" with people like Norah Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Pearl Bailey, Dorothy Dandridge, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, the Motown Classic, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, and Nat King Cole, you know the good stuff. It made me realize that the music of my generation is kind of a joke compared to them.

Of course, there were a lot others that I didn't mention.

YES! So glad you asked 'Bruce Springsteen'

Put his album on got a electric shock off the record player cleaned my mind right out and gave me a whole new perspective on life. I now know that someone will go out with me, that my hair style is not the most important thing in the world, and a getting a spot is not worth becoming a hermit for.

Not really My music tastes are eclectic.
Though I have been on stage with Queen.
Help pick up Meatloaf when he collapsed back stage.
And listened to Sting swear during rehearsal.
And others. How many encores tonight,
One meant an early night.

Nine Inch Nails Came first and for whatever reason moved me and has moved me through some tougher times.

Then came and am still stuck in a sea of Techno internationally made and listened to and spread around. Its a beautiful thing.

Somebody once, introduced me to the wonderful music of Billie Holliday and Dinah Washington. Before that, I would just listen to the "soul less" Madonna. Well, I redesigned my cd collection to very good old "torch singers" and Jazz and yes, lots of B.B.King. I realized "THAT WAS THE REAL DEAL" !!!

I liked Marley too, especially "Buffalo Soldier"

I think it was Old Blue Eyes and Billy Joel who gave me things to think about, though--and Suzie Quatro with "Stumblin' In."
