This is for a science class and I greatly appreciate the help! What type of test does a pregnant women recieve right before giving birth? It is taken from the skin. I am not certain, but it may be either Staph or Streppe. I am having a bit of trouble finding the info. Thank You!

i have not a clue what test your talking about. only thing i can think of is group strep B test.. along with they do a urine sample. along with a blood count. sometimes in rare cases there are worse testing done but those are the common testing and not everyone has those tests done but on a common bases those 3 are done. one is obviously urine, one is blood and one is swabbing from the "vag and rear area" so i would assume you are talking about group strep B testing..

TB is the skin test.

A group B strep test is taken from the cervix not the skin. If it is positive antibiotics are given. While Group B strep usually causes no problems for the mother it can be fatal or cause severe illness for the infant.

If it is what I think you are asking, it is for Strep, group b, a bacteria that normally inhabits the birth canal. When present in high numbers it can infect newborns who are exposed to it while in the birth canal during birth. An infection of this bacteria can cause retardation, so the mother is given a round of antibiotics while in labor to prevent this.

I hope this helps!

streb b they test for it. They sbob the vagina and the rectum. If this bacteria is in the vagina at birth the baby will pass through and get this. This can actually kill a baby if passsed to the baby. If you have it they will give you a shot so many hours before birth! Hope I helped!
