What is the name of this book?

Question

I used to work in a library when I was in middle school and read about every new book that came in to the place.

I recall reading one but the name escapes me.

basically the story went like this:

A girl is having trouble with her family never having time with her, so she makes up a story about some one trying to rape her, but she was able to fight him off.

to add more truth to the story she smacks a sign really hard to injure her hand.

however the problem escalates as the description she gave tot he police matches that of a serial rapist.

well the cop investigating is suspicious of her story and warned the girl about what happens when you file a false police report.

that is about the most I can think of as the story goes.

I do remember that it ended with her taking all the medicine in her medicine cabinet and going for a run, as she was about to black out she called the cop about what she had lied about.
