Approximately 80,000 but the statistics lag by a few years so this is what the rate used to be. Obviously you can't include this year yet because it hasn't finished. More than half were suicides.
However in the UK it was about 400. Tell that to Charlton Heston.

according to the latest FBI statistics, firearms related deaths have been at an all time low in the U.S. actual figures for 2005 are 10,100 but, this is misleading because it includes all deaths, both criminal, like gang shootings, to drug deals gone bad, to police shootings, to citizens using a firearm for self defense, to suicides. This with a record number of citizens carrying legal concealed weapons. This tends to off set the claims by anti gun groupsand liberal tree huggers, that more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens would lead to blood baths in the streets. In addition, again according to the FBI, violent crime is down again for 2005 as it has been each year for that last ten rears or so. It has remained at all time lows, With the exception of murder which did climb slightly this year for the first time in 10 years. However, statistics for the countries that imposed strict gun control show a huge increase in violent crimes. This included the U.K., Australia and Canada.
It just goes along with common sense, arm the law abiding citizens and the criminals are more afraid and hesitant to commit crimes where they might get their head blown off.In addition, during this same year, doctors killed over 80,000 patients thru medical mistakes. Go figure.

The average stays around 30,000 yearly. The vast majority are people who were up to no good in the first place, which directly contributes to their early demise.
You might also want to ask how many defensive gun uses there are each year.

If this is another attempt to limit the ownership of guns, or impliment more gun laws restricting our rights, forget it, and ask the following questions:
How many people died from medical malpractice during this period?
How many people died from automobile accidents during this period?
How many people died as the result of other means of violent acts, such as being attacked with knives, clubs and sensless beatings?
How many died from the overuse of illegal drugs?
How many died from fires during this period, and just how many children were killed by their mothers or fathers during this same period?
See, no matter if we have access to guns or not, people will still be killed by some means or another, so just think, aside from war, people will still die.

That's very sad.
I believe these things are happening because we are living in the last days.
2 Tim 3:1 But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.
