If you're not actually Mexican, then yes. Even if you're of South American decent, but now American then he/she should still not refer to you as "the new Mexicans". However, your coworker may have not meant it in a negative way and since I wasn't there, I can't really tell you.

Depends it what context it was used, but more than likely it was just coming from someone not knowing better and not putting any hate behind it. If it bothers you and it happens again, just tell him that it is offencive to you and if he could refer to you in another way...like by your names! No need to blow it out of proportion

Are you originally from Mexico? And if so, are you a citizen of the United States, or just here on a VISA?

If you are FROM Mexico and not yet a citizen, I would say that Mexican would be correct....otherwise, they were in the wrong.

How so? Are you from New Mexico? If so, you should simply be referred to as 'American'. However, are you from Mexico? If so, then you are 'Mexican' by birth, aren't you? And if you're new to the country, or to the company, then you are 'new' and you are 'Mexican'. I'm not offended to be called 'the Canadian' - why? Because I AM Canadian!

Yes. Having racist coworkers makes the job more difficult than it has to be, but you need to let them know you're not going to take it right from the start.

If being Mexican is a job requirement, for example you were hired because of your knowledge of Mexico, then it is appropriate to mention that you are Mexicans. If it's irrelevant to the job, then there's no reason to bring it up.
