There are USB ball mice as well, especially for laptops.

I bought a cheap £7 laser mouse from a bargain-basement store (Netto's for those who know it before it closed down), and it's the best mouse I've owned - it functions like any other mouse but it has lasted much longer. They both behave pretty much the same - my opticals all had lights, this laser mouse of mine has no light at all - it's dark - it must use light in a non-visible spectrum. (and no, there is no ball inside it.) If you're spending big money, go with the cheapest. Poor gamers always blame their mice ;)

I don't think that all USB mice are laser. I believe that the one in the link below has a ball in it.

I also believe that there are adapters so that you can use a ball mouse with a USB port if you don't have a mouse port on a computer.

I hope I helped you! :)
