I don't understand. People want equality, Then why identify a name as "African American" There is really nothing wrong with it. but, I still don't get it. If I named a boy of mine Davontey would I be in trouble because I am not African American?

One of my FAVORITE students when I was teaching was a wonderful young man in my third grade class named Shy'Quan.
I taught him 13 years ago, but he will never be forgotten and will always hold a place in my heart.
He didn't like anyone calling him 'Quan except his family. Everyone else called him Shy'Quan. So I was always careful to respect that. But I'll never forget the day he told me that I could call him 'Quan if I wanted to. Such an honor from such a sweet kid.
