Wht did Gerry McCann phone Sky news instead of the authorities. Their little girl was discovered to be missing from the apartment yet Gerry rang SKY NEWS before reporting this disappearance to the police .Why ?

I think he did this to be in control of events as they unfolded, having Sky news on side, his side i mean, being fully confident in Sky swallowing his story, unlikely they would doubt the word of a person in his position would be part of his reasoning.Gerry McCann had to have a total grip on what was to happen subsequently ensuring he stayed one step ahead at all times, he set the ball rolling with the phone call. This was vital, to be first with his version of events, the only way to set his deceitful plan into action.

This question was asked before and many people argued that the McCanns knew someone at the media and as they could not speak Portugese they called this person first, However,,, these points do not state that there is a number for the international police who do in fact speak english, which the McCanns as doctors would have known, or the fact that Gerry was the first person to talk to the police when they turned up (can we presume there was no communication problem there) also people will say that Mrs McCann asked a member of staff to call the police (language thing again) but again they will omit the fact that this is strongly denied by the people at the hotel. No one can say what on earth they were thinking when they called the news except they must have known by this point (I believe a few minutes after discovering Maddy missing) that their daughter was not going to turn up.
Although Little weeds link is to a forum, This was in the papers a while back, listed as one of the 40 questions that were put to the McCanns and not answered apparently.

This makes the abduction theory front page news and forces the investigation to follow the least likely track -- this is why the McCanns were not investigated at first (as is normally done when a family member disappears).
There does seem to be some confusion over which person or persons first contacted the media.
There are some reports that Kate McCann contacted her friend Esther McVey, formerly a presenter on GMTV.
Also, in the Times on 24 August, Kirsty Wark is acknowledged to have been contacted on May 3 with the story of the abduction.

I am inclined to believe that Sky were contacted before the police, because Clazza must know that this is well reported and yet to my knowlege, has made no efforts to deny it.I find it odd that anyone would think to do this - or maybe it's not - I don't know. But I can't help feeling that you'd be in such a state that you'd hardly have the inclination to do this. It would be all immediate people and the police that you would want to alert, especially at that time of night.I hope I am wrong, but I have to say that when I saw Kate and Gerry walk hand in hand to the beach that day soon after the event and sat across that bay, is the time when my personal suspicions began to creep in. They never looked anywhere, they just sat there looking resigned.
If you have an interest in this, there is no harm in asking for opinions, I wish people wouldn't get so upset at the posts about all this. Most of us are genuinely concerned and want justice, whichever way it falls. I would want them to be innocent for sure. It is through forums like this that we have the opportunity to find out what other people think and I welcome genuine questions that are seeking the thoughts of others.

Do you ever give up especially when so many other children are missing in Europe?
Where is the evidence that the McCanns rang Sky News before the authorities? Even if they did, would that not have been a good move to get the search started? When in a foreign country, because of the language problems it is often easier to start by contacting someone back home for help.
Furthermore, to base your 'question' around a Mirror forum is plainly ridiculous. Its like using the Beano for a source.

The Manager at Mark Warners confirmed to Gerry & Kate McCann that he had informed the authorities immediately. Gerry & Kate were busy scouting bushes & the resort premises for at that time most thought that little Madeleine had wandered off & would be found sleeping peacefully under a bush. The Manager himself confirmed this to the media.
It was only later that it was found that that he couldn't contact the Authorities & promptly forgot all about it in the confusion & chaos & shock & panic that reigned on the evening of May 3rd.

For those who couldn't be bothered to read the link before making stupid comments about it being a forum, there is a link on there to a video interview, in (portugese), which verifies that Gerry phoned Sky first.

Not only did he ring Sky News - he rang Sky News in the Algarve - how the hell did he have their number?
As to why he rang them before the police - your guess is as good as mine...
The excuse of the language barrier goes straight out of the window.

I am sure if this was true it would be part of the Portuguese police's case against the couple. The police were phoned but it took over an hour for them to arrive.
