I have hazel eyes, my dad has hazel eyes and my mom has green eyes. My partner and both of his parents have blue eyes. Can we have a blue eyed baby? Just wondering how genes work.

i learned about this in my anatomy class in college. any children you have together will be blue eyed. the really isn't a hazel color eyes. there are only blue and brown, if a person has hazel eyes its either from jaundice or a hormonal imbalance at birth. my husband and i have two children and i have hazel and he has blue and both of our children have blue eyes. it doesn't go that far back into the family tree for eye color, it only depends on what you and your partner have. and if there is a situation that is one person is blue and the other brown then it can go either way but with brown being more dominant. i hope this answered your ?

Hello retro. Interesting question. Genetics of eye color is actually a bit more complex than some other inherited traits. You got some good answers... but I will try to fill any other gaps. As mentioned, blue is a recessive trait meaning, BOTH parents have to contribute for the child to have a blue color. Therefore if your friend has the blue eye gene, there is a possibility the child will have blue color eyes. How can your friend have the blue eye gene? -You have to look at her family tree and see if any of her parents or grandparents or whoever had blue eyes or not. (they can also be a carrier of the gene but you wouldn't know it)... So Will their child have blue eyes? possibly but very unlikely if no other blue connection is found in your friends family tree. can there be a blue colored black child? yes certainly, even in your friends' future family. Your friend's child will most likely be a carrier of the blue gene if he doesn't acquire it. So if he /she mates with another person with blue eyed/carrier.. there is a good probability their child will have blue eyes. Hope you have all your answers.

yes they can...I have hazel, my husband has blue and both his parents have blue. All 4 of our kids have blue eyes. I may be wrong but I thought I;d once heard that blue is a more common eye color than the others.

Yes, and my daughter is proof of that!! I am Italian with dark brown hair and hazel eyes, her father is norwegian with blonde hair and blue eyes. I was certain my daughter was going to look more like me since my features are usually dominant...but I have a blonde haired/blue eyed baby!!! (I jokingly asked for a maternity test in the hospital...lol.)

Yes, it is very possible that your child will have blue eyes, especially because one of the parents already has blue eyes. I'm not sure if you know this, but blue eyes are dominant to all other eye colors. Just beware and don't forget that all children are born with blue eyes at first and they change after a few weeks if they are going to at all.

Eye color is a resesive gene which means if anyone in your family or spouse's family has or had blue eyes your baby can have that color too. If you have hazel and spouse has blue your baby could have brown if it is in any of your family.

Yes, I have blue eyes and my family has mainly brown eyes with occational blue. My fiance on the other hand has brown eyes because he is hispanic and so does his whole family but our new born son has blue eyes like his mama!! It is just a toss up. Our next baby could have brown eyes. You never know!

Yes of course, the genes come from all generations before you, and it's basically random chance what genes will show up in your baby. But, the chances of a gene being passed on that wasn't in the 2 or 3 generations before is pretty rare.
