by the time you read the answers to your question you will probably already have opened that jar of pickles. But, there will be another jar o' pickles in your future and so next time - sharply tap the bottom of the jar a couple of times and it should open with ease

Take a wooden spoon and tap hard around the rim of the jar. It may be an old wive's tale, but my mom used to do it and it always worked.
