I am currently using a "Siemens DSL Modem Model 4100B",

http://store.att.com/catalog/productdetails.asp?ProductId=12AR%2D4101%2D506&CategoryId=catMRG&show=Features

but the on/off button is getting loose, I have to stick a toothpick by the button in order to keep it on.

att sells it for $49, I wonder if i can go to any computer store to buy a similiar one? if so, what kind should I get? i am totally clueless

thanks

Any of them will work but, before you spend the $$$ I assume you got the modem from your ISP. Contact them, maybe they will replace it for free. Another cheap fix is to open the modem (after you unplugged it of course) and short out the switch so it is always on. If you need to turn it off, unplug it.

Look around and you'll find plenty of modems that are priced both above and around that price. I found one on newegg that is also my router for my other computers. You can even get ones that have the wireless built in. It all depends on what features you want, but most will be compatible with your ISP (most adhere to standards).

Our first one did pretty much the same thing. I can't even tell you what my hubby bought next.... Go to Wal-Mart and ask when will the next sale on them happen. Good luck!
