Okay so I'm looking at two different memory options for memory on my sony laptop.

1) G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel
2) G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel

YES, they are both the exact same, except for one difference. One has a CAS latency of 5, the other one of 4. And I am aware that lower CAS means faster computer operation. With that being said, my only criteria is price. The kit with the lower CAS of 4 (faster) is $70. The kit with the higher CAS of 5 (slower) is $55.
Links for the two kits:
CAS Lat. 5: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820231116
CAS Lat. 4: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E1682
Which one should i go for?! Does the overall performance gain from a lower CAS latency justify the price? Will I even see a difference? Please let me know. I believe I am extremely knowledgable in computers in general, but I seem to have a gap in this field. Thanks.

Trash? At least, tell me why you would say something ridiculous like that. On Newegg, these were two of the best DDR2 SO-DIMM's running at PC-5300. It was also the highest rated, and the most popular. Now you may be reffering to the PC-5300 speed as trash, but guy, that's the speed my laptop's FSB allows it to run, the highest speed any memory compatible with my notebook can run, as the Crucial scan pointed out as well.
And even then PC-5300 is one of the faster bus transfer speeds available on laptops.
And G.Skill may or may not be a value brand, but this specific model runs at the fastest speed to still be compatible with my laptop. Therefore, don't you think that it brings as much performance to the table?

Thanks for both the answers, yet I'm no closer to making a decision then when I'd started.

Well that was a ridiculous answer, for one you already know what you need, and secondly G.Skill is a fine brand if you want a budget set. If price is your only concern, go with the cheaper one, the difference is not huge in performance.

Latency is how long it takes for different actions in reading and writing your RAM to be taken. Lower numbers are always better. You will usually see 4 numbers used to describe latency, CAS latency is just one of those. All four make a difference in the speed of your RAM. If you consider overclocking your computer, you can sometimes get better performance out of your RAM by buying faster speed (1000mhz instead of 800mhz) and then using your BIOS settings to reduce the latency of the memory. For detailed information on latency and how RAM works visit wikipedia.
