Living together doesn't mean it will always work out. I did..we got married and ended up in a divorce. Its what you make of your marriage that counts.

I would like to know that myself. My mother always told me to not live w/someone before marriage (or in her words "a man will never buy the cow when he can get the milk for free"). I personally have dated someone for almost 5 yrs. Never lived together yet never married. But everything is going great (no more than the normal relationship hassles). I think it depends mostly on personal preference. How long are you willing to live w/someone & them not ask you to marry you. And would marriage change what you have already. In some states once you live together for so long you are legally married anyway. (Called common law marriage) This answer may not have helped any just sharing my experience I guess.

Don't live together before marriage. If you are living together, there is NO motivation to get married.... think of it. He already has all the benefits of a wife only he can leave whenever he wants.

My husband and I lived together for close to two years, I did not expect marriage, because we forfeited that conversation when we agreed to 'move in with each other'.
However one day he asked me "Do you want to go get married?" and I said "Sure." so we did.

Each relationship is different. Living together isn't an indication that you're ready for marriage. All you can do it take each day as it comes. If you get married, you do. If not, you don't.

You shouldn't expect marriage. Talk about it. A lot of times, the "shacking up" is taking the place of marriage.
