There seems to be lots of similarities between the UK and the USA. Large prison population, feral youths, racial balkanization, rich/poor divide, out of control immigration, etc. The process has been going on for some time.

The current generation in your media, business and political class grew up in a post war Britain, where the wealth and mesmerizing pop culture of America was constantly compared to the austere dullness of the UK. They developed a mindset that assumed that progress consists of entirely adopting anything that is done in USA. This Americanization has permeated the British Isles from top to bottom.

They Silver Screen was a very potent advertisement for Americanism. Brits are very closely connected with the Americas Pioneering era. It feels like many of our Ancestors have lived -grew up and are buried there. It is a human failing to believe that people in other western countries enjoy something better than ourselves. It works both ways ,many Live work and have fun in the UK. The special Bonds between Britain & America will remain special for a very very long time and beyond. It is a welcome Bond that will remain always . ( Segregation imitated in Britain ?? what Segregation ?

There's a huge number of American TV programmes in Britain, especially for young people. Due to a wide variety of historical reasons the United States is the strongest force in music, film and television, which means that the American way of life is broadcast a lot more globally then any other culture.

Sorry I make a point of being neither American or European as I am descended from people who a. left Europe to escape the tyranny that was endemic and b, stayed instead of leaving to set up another country. In my view only those who can not think for themselves need either America or Europe.

I'm an American. I've loved my trips to Britain -- and I think this is a most unfortunate turn of events.

Its pretty predictable that Hollywood's idea of the world would become well known simply because of the breadth of the film studio's distribution... But that is no more a picture of the real America than "Mr. Smith goes to Washington".

Many Americans are loud and arrogant. We aren't all, but it is understandable why people would tend to think of us that way.

It's quite simply explained. Your average Briton bases his attitude towards other nations on whether they speak English or not - ask them what they think of the French, Germans or Spanish, etc.! It doesn't matter how good or bad they are, if they speak English they must be "all right".

For all its ills, it's a good job the Government doesn't work like that!

My parents were socialists...Proper socialists!

My Mother hated American influence so much that when as a 7 year old I told her that I had eaten a 'hot dog' at the cinema, she told me that I should never do so again as frankfurters were made of flea ****.

I did not doubt my Mother's word...but rationalised her statement by persuading myself that millions of Americans had not been poisoned by them...and they were delicious.

Years later, when I was a teenager...a friend idly mentioned that he had recently consumed a hot dog. I , by way of public service, informed him that frankfurters were made of flea ****.
This news was greeted in silence and my friend took his time considering this statement.

Eventually he asked the pertinent question..."How do they gather it?" he asked.....

This is why 'Americanisation' can never take hold in England...we are barking mad!
