Is there a place that would offer to let you set up an after school program center? Create a place for them to go and be productive/casual, etc. Make it really fun and safe. Get volunteers from a local college. Approach a college about offering the experience toward class credit (this is what I got 3 credits for). I had to keep a journal and create at least 2 events for the teens.
Some places have a teen center that get things donated. like art supplies, snacks, couches, video games, etc. You can get professionals to donate their time showing off a craft for those interested. Make it fun, and not dry as to attract them off the street. If you need ideas contact an existing teen center in another city.

Volunteer to be a mentor, (big brother/big sister) Some kids need a friend, somene to teach them how to throw a ball, long devision, take them to a movie etc.. Many kids come from homes where the parents are out working all day and the kids are locked up at home on the comp. or watching TV all day! Get in touch with a local youth center and ask what you and your friends can do to help. It is more rewarding than pretty much anything, to be able to make a difference in a child's life!

My children were involved with a community project long ago that they really enjoyed and that gave them healthy friendships with older people. A bunch of retired military officers plowed up a patch of the city Botanical Gardens into small, individual plots about 5 feet by 12 feet. One military officer and one kid teamed up every Saturday to work each plot as a vegetable garden. During the week, the officers carefully tended the plots for the children. Everyone learned a lot and had a wonderful time. It was so much better than Saturday morning cartoons. And, the children had baskets full of vegetables that they had grown to bring home to their families.

Get them involved starting at school with community projects. Its difficult to fine tune - my friend secured funds for a youth/drop in centre which local children decorated and decided what to do ! Tea ,coffee, snooker table TV area in a warm safe environment.
Unfortunately all was well until some (unclear which ones) youths vandalised it beyond belief and the centre was closed. I believe the idea was on the right track though.
Good Luck

Hello, i quite agree with you, has mature or should i say old people that we have forgot the young people. And now we we see then wasting there life with drugs , drink etc. The time is to talk to them and not isolate them, so get in contact with a youth worker or you church.
